Back in the Saddle Again

I'm back on the wagon after almost a month of no running. I haven't felt as much pressure to be on the schedule yet, since I'm not going to Chicago this year. My Disneyland Half marathon is a little over nineteen weeks away and Disney World is in January. Pulled up a half marathon training schedule on jeffgalloway.com and it starts on week seventeen. It's very different working five days a week while trying to train, compared to my part-time hospital job the last two years. You people doing this while working full-time, I salute you.
I made myself go out this afternoon. I did three miles at a 2 : 1.30 interval. Looked at my Garmin 201 and it listed my last run as March 19th. Yikes! Right after spring break my horn playing schedule got busy. Well, it's starting to wind down. The run was great: the music on my phone, the smell of honeysuckle, the fresh air, the birds and squirrels.
If you think you don't have it in you to do the training and the marathon, think about this: If you quit now, you'll always wonder what if. You can do this. The rewards go further than just completing the marathon. Personally, what kept me in, besides determination, was I didn't want to throw away the money I had already invested in this crazy undertaking.
Can't make it this Saturday. I got a call asking if I could sub for the regular third horn player in Meridian Symphony. Hey, a chance to play and make some money, too. Hope to see everyone next Saturday. Hang in there.
